LAGOS OPD RESOLVES OVER 14,000 CASES
…Receives N189 Million Compensation On Behalf Of Clients
Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Public Defender (OPD), resolved over 14,000 petitions and court cases between January 3rd and December 31st, 2017.
A release issued and signed by Mrs. Olubukola Salami, Director, Office of the Public Defender, also noted that the total compensation received by on behalf of its clients through mediation last year was N189,074,957.
According to the release, 7470 Court Cases were attended to; 4662 Petitions Received; 1300 Petitions concluded and 49 Rescue Missions embarked upon among other issues.
Recall that the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) was established in 2000 to serve as an agency of the Lagos State Government saddled with the major responsibility of providing free legal service and other related functions to the masses, especially the less-privileged and the vulnerable.
Since its inception, the Office has recorded appreciable successes in defending the masses free of charge.
